Origin of Name: In 1953 Father Benno Stumpf was elected Abbot of St. Engelszell. Much like Abbot Gregorius, his infinite optimism, dedication and faith in God were the main forces behind his work. Forced to leave the Trappist monastery Maria Stern (Banja Luka, Bosnia) in 1944 with his fellow monks, he made a brief stopover in Maria Veen, Germany, finally arriving in Engelszell in 1952. He was the energy behind the reconstruction of the cathedral and all monastic buildings. As a result of his efforts, the monastery decided to use mural paintings to decorate the empty space under the ceiling of the St. Engelszell church with a 20th century fresco by Prof. Fritz Froehlich: «The nine choirs of angels with Mary as their queen». Benno was launched together with Gregorious in 2012.

Tasting Notes:

Style: Farmhouse Style Ale

Color: Benno’s appearance is a stunning reflection of the amazing colors of a sunny autumn day in the Danube valley.

Nose: citrus, fruits, amaretto.

Palate: soft on entry. Orange, lemon acidity. Cherry, white grape. Slightly minty. Finish is long, dry and herbal with hints of grapefruit.

Malts used: Pilsner Malt, Caramal malt
Hops: Mühlviertler Spalter Select, Mühlviertler Aurora, Alsacian Strisser Spalter
yeast of primary fermentation: Saison ale yeast
yeast of secondary fermentation: Alsacian wine yeast

An addition of organic honey produced at Engelszell’s bee farm is used instead of sugar for the secondary fermentation.

名稱由來:

如同首任院長「Gregorius」對上帝的熱情和奉獻,接替的「Benno Stumpf|貝諾」院長(19531966),也是修道院重建的功臣,教堂天穹處,美輪美奐的『聖母瑪莉與祂的九位合唱天使們』壁畫,正是他央請「Fritz Froehlich」所繪製的,很自然,「貝諾」是酒廠繼「格雷高斯」後,在2012同年所推出的第二款啤酒。

風格: 農家季節啤酒|Saison

色澤:如秋日多瑙河畔的天色(古銅色)

氣息:微濃郁的果香,杏仁感的核果味,以及些許柑橘氣息,淡淡青草暗示

口感:入口溫和,有柑橘和檸檬的清爽微酸。黑櫻桃及白葡萄的莓果味伴隨一絲涼涼的薄荷。餘韻持久但乾爽,最後的尾韻會跳出類似青草的氣息並點綴著葡萄柚的香氣。
